We've had ours for a week now and it works great. Leaving it on low does a nice job of keeping our bedroom pure... well, the air at least... Like someone else mentioned, the lights are rather bright on the control panel. We cover the top of the unit with the user manual at night to block the light. One note for those comparing this one with the WH10400 model... the lower model does not have the auto-mode for the fan speed, does not have the fancy display, and it also does not have a remote. I almost bought the lesser model... but the auto mode pushed me over to buying this one. Its also interesting to see the display change color if the air quality is not great. If you are looking to buy an air purifier, I would highly recommend this one. UPDATE July 1, 2011 - purifier still works great... I've rinsed the foam dust filter on the back several... I've been wanting another air purifier for a while now. I had several Sharper Image purifiers and one Rabbit Air. I still like the Rabbit Air but always wished it had a UV bulb inside. But my Sharper Image purifiers have been collecting dust and sitting unused ever since they started acting up -- crackling, popping and making all sorts of annoying noises that no amount of cleaning can seem to remedy. Well, thanks to this Hoover, I finally got to toss out that old Sharper Image junk! I'm still using the Rabbit Air, but do consider this Hoover to be the better of the two. Things that make you go DUH! It wasn't until I got this home that I realized this Hoover Purifier is the same brand as the vacuum people -- DUH! I couldn't find it even on Hoover's website. They probably are doing this because the numbers are very low: Smoke - 51, Dust - 84 & Pollen - 79. I believe the CADR numbers aren't useful numbers with UV and Ionization functions - those are things that can't be accurately tested by CADR testing? But those CADR numbers are so very low for a true HEPA filter. For people who are allergic to smoke, dust or pollen - the higher the number the better. Another thing is the square feet this unit is certified for - 79 square feet. That's it? I thought that might have been a typo. That is a pretty small room - slightly smaller than a 10x8 room. The indicator lights & LCD panel are extremely bright! They could probably have saved a few watts of electricity by dimming them down a bit. If you have it in your bedroom you are going to need to cover them up. What is up... We have a room dedicated to small parrots, and they produce a lot of dander that we don't want to spread into the rest of the house. Our old Honeywell worked well, but it was hard to clean and fairly loud. This new one is much quieter, and works just as well, filtering a great amount of dander out of the air. It is far easier to clean, and the fact that no filters ever need to be replaced was a major reason for our purchase. It is running constantly, but it is virtually unnoticeable. We have tried several air purifiers over the years, and this is by far the best we have had. The HFD-010 exceeded my expectations and makes for a good size air purifier for any room. It is not the biggest unit, and it does not have a lot of features for various control (just two speeds). On high speed, it took in a lot of air. Works well for hallways, bathrooms, and for kitchens, especially if you have pets or cooking smells that linger throughout the house. I also like the idea of it having a permanent filter. I recommend this product. But if you want more options for speeds, you might want a bigger unit. I'm also slightly allergic to my cat and for the last few weeks I've been waking up with sinus problems and sometimes a sore throat. I wanted something that had a permanent filter and am glad I went with this product. After 2 weeks of use my sinuses have improved quite a bit and I feel a lot better waking up in the morning. I cleaned the electrostatic rod after 2 weeks and there was a good amount of dust, hair, and dirt stuck to it. It was so dirty I used some dish washing detergent and removed some nasty brown smoke tar from it too since my house is full of smokers. Product also puts out a fresh smell that can work to cover and eliminate some odors, but I wouldn't use this as a odor neutralizing device. I recommend dusting it out with a air blaster from time to time in order to improve the longevity of the fan as some dust/debris may bypass the rod. I leave...
