We bought this one to replace a larger Honeywell tower that had burned out the motor bearings. We have a room dedicated to small parrots, and they produce a lot of dander that we don't want to spread into the rest of the house. Our old Honeywell worked well, but it was hard to clean and fairly loud. This new one is much quieter, and works just as well, filtering a great amount of dander out of the air. It is far easier to clean, and the fact that no filters ever need to be replaced was a major reason for our purchase. It is running constantly, but it is virtually unnoticeable. We have tried several air purifiers over the years, and this is by far the best we have had.

We have three air purifiers in the house, all different brands. This Honeywell is, by far and in every respect, the best of all three. It is sturdy, very well-made and extremely efficient. We have it on 24/7 on the low speed and it completely neutralizes odors (we have 4 dogs) and, most importantly, it collects a large amount of dust and all kinds of particles. We've had this purifier for almost a year and it is as quiet today as it was on the first day. We also like the fact that the permanent filter is very easy to clean. Highly recommendable. Honeywell has always put out good products. The HFD-010 exceeded my expectations and makes for a good size air purifier for any room. It is not the biggest unit, and it does not have a lot of features for various control (just two speeds). On high speed, it took in a lot of air. Works well for hallways, bathrooms, and for kitchens, especially if you have pets or cooking smells that linger throughout the house. I also like the idea of it having a permanent filter.
I recommend this product. But if you want more options for speeds, you might want a bigger unit.

I'm a college student who lives in a room with a cat, litter box, old fireplace, and it can get pretty stuffy inside. I'm also slightly allergic to my cat and for the last few weeks I've been waking up with sinus problems and sometimes a sore throat. I wanted something that had a permanent filter and am glad I went with this product. After 2 weeks of use my sinuses have improved quite a bit and I feel a lot better waking up in the morning. I cleaned the electrostatic rod after 2 weeks and there was a good amount of dust, hair, and dirt stuck to it. It was so dirty I used some dish washing detergent and removed some nasty brown smoke tar from it too since my house is full of smokers. Product also puts out a fresh smell that can work to cover and eliminate some odors, but I wouldn't use this as a odor neutralizing device. I recommend dusting it out with a air blaster from time to time in order to improve the longevity of the fan as some dust/debris may bypass the rod. I leave... Read more

I think that for the price, this item is very good. It's easy to clean, quiet when it's running, and it helps with my breathing over night. I put it on my dresser and could tell after a couple of nights that I was breathing better. I would recommend this unit.

This filter is the exact same filter sold by Sears under the Kenmore brand. The equivalent Kenmore part number is 32-83378. Whirlpool pre-filter # 8171434K will fit Kenmore Progressive air purifiers for models 83200 and 83202. I bought this for my Kenmore Progressive air purifier and compared it to the Kenmore replacement pre-filters that I had previously bought from Sears. The filters are an exact match; even the box is the same except for what is printed on it. At the time of this writing Sears charges $10 more for the Kenmore part number than Whirlpool. If you own a Kenmore Progressive air purifier that takes Kenmore pre-filter 32-83378, I highly recommend purchasing this one to save yourself $10 and to discourage Sears from marking up there filters such a ridiculously high amount.

This product is not the genuine Whirlpool 8171434K Large Filters. They arrive in an unlabeled plastic bag not the Whirlpool box. Therefore, content and quality and manufacturer are unknown. They may function fine but I specifically purchased them because they advertised them as a known quantity - the original Whirlpool filters which come in a Whirlpool branded box with a specific product number.
